2019.06.23 submission; 2019.06.29 Revision Request before Peer Review; 2019.06.30 under review; 2019.08.14 major revision. There were just two reviewers, and when I was about to submit a revision response the next day, I found that there was another one. I was really confused at the time. How can it be like this? And according to the tone of the reviewer, the second one seemed to be the academic editor. Because the direction of the article I submitted is relatively unpopular, it was difficult to find reviewers. The first reviewer was from Poland and asked me to cite his article. I read it and the level is average. The third reviewer is not so much a revision suggestion as a question, asking why this is the case instead of that. 2019.08.18 minor revision, and there were some minor issues; 2019.08.25 accepted. Generally speaking, the speed is quite fast. The quality of the articles in this journal is uneven, there are good articles, and some are valueless. Because it was rejected by one of the top journals in Q1, and for some other reasons, I didn’t bother to change it and directly submitted it to this Q3 journal. I basically knew that it was only a matter of time before it got accepted.

Overall the whole process went quite smoothly. I noticed that Waters now publishes many papers authors by people from China (from many different institutions, such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences system, and various universities) Many people look down on OA journals, but in my experience, four reviewers commented on the paper from different angles, and their suggestions have greatly improved the quality of the manuscript. Water is just one of many OA journals. Although the cost is high, it is obviously faster than other journals (usually reviewed in half a month and published within 3-6 days after acceptance). In addition, this journal provides language editing (after acceptance). The editing was careful and thorough, which was great. Personal I think if you are not in a hurry to publish, you can choose a non-OA journal, but if you read this journal, you’ll find a lot of high-quality, interesting papers. Of course, not all papers are from China (2016-2018: 1124 papers from China, 644 from USA 644). Specific data can be found on the website.

The review process was quite fast. The submission was made on March 15th, and the external review took about a month. The manuscript was returned for major revisions on April 10th, an extension of 7 days was requested on April 17th, the revised manuscript was submitted on April 26th, and it was accepted on April 29th.
