Submitted in May 2017, about 10 days later we got notified that it went to peer review. The review comments came back after one month; one reviewer had only two questions, the other reviewer three pages of comments. The editor decided to reject the paper, but said that if we can address all the questions, we can submit again as a new manuscript, but they would find at least one new reviewer. After performing new experiments to add to the paper for half a year, we resubmitted the manuscript right before Christmas. After 20 days, we were told that the paper went to peer review. the review comments came back after about 20 days. Actually no new reviewer, the paper was sent to the reviewer who initially asked a lot of questions. Then, the reviewer said to accept. The editor said to change the wording in one sentence. We revised and resubmitted, and it was officially accepted two weeks later.

Overall feeling. The PLOS Biology editorial team is very efficient. The research in the field of tumor biology was submitted. Received a response for major revision after one month of initial review. Spent two months revising and resubmitted, received an email for minor revision one month later. Spent one month on revisions, returned the revised manuscript, and received a final revision approval after about one week. Finally accepted, the editors were very nice. Most of the emails sent can receive timely responses from the editors (pay attention to the time difference), the review process is quite strict. Also, PLOS Biology is an open access (OA) journal (in fact, the entire PLOS system is OA), making it easy for readers to access. This is worth mentioning too. If you want to submit, go for it! Submitted for review the past two weeks. The editor sent an email requesting additional data. It takes one month to receive the review results. Over 50 comments were raised by the three reviewers. A major revision will take two months. After that, it will be submitted again. Re-evaluation by the reviewers might take a month. Minor revisions will take a few days. Finally, the paper will be accepted. The publication fee is around 10,000 yen. Very professional!

After another approximately 20 days, the review comments came back without assigning a new reviewer, it was the same reviewer who had raised a lot of questions before. The reviewer indicated that the manuscript was okay. The editor only asked for one sentence to be modified in the article. After making the change and resubmitting, the manuscript was officially accepted two weeks later
