It's probably not your fault, it's likely that your research has encountered competitors. Have you posted a preprint? I once encountered a situation where competitors tried to hijack the topic, maliciously sabotaging each other's manuscripts. I had submitted to ECCB before, and just 3 days after receiving a rejection notice, a preprint appeared with the same samples and topic as mine, essentially rehashing the entire topic and modifying another model. However, their logic was nonsensical and it was clear that they didn't understand my field or the reasons behind my choices.

Let me talk about my bad experience. I submitted to Cell Reports and was rejected in the first round. After arguing, I was asked for major revisions. However, I was rejected in the second round with three reviewers, with the other two having no objections. It was the one reviewer who made things difficult for me. I am studying the mechanism of protein lactylation modification, and the common practice is to mutate lysine (K) to arginine (R) to simulate the unmodified state. However, this reviewer did not approve of this method from the beginning, questioning the amino acid mutation simulation. If he doesn't approve of this simulation, then all my work is in vain. Forget about other journals, even the main journals of Cell have published several articles on lactylation modifications, all using the same method. What's more, my article also rules out the possibility of dominant lysine acylation modifications at this site, something Cell articles lack. Do these editors have no subjective judgment and just blindly follow the idiotic opinions of reviewers? I'm really speechless!
