This article is about first principles calculation. It was previously submitted to other journals from RSC and got rejected, then it was transferred to RSC Adv. It was also rejected by RSC Adv in less than 20 days after submission in early October, but I feel that two of the reviewers rejected it as they are not researching in calculations. Many of the comments were not related to the calculations. After thinking about it, I decided to give it another try and resubmitted. I also explained some of the calculations to the editor and reviewers. I waited for nearly 20 days. This time, the reviewers quite understood the calculations. A minor revision was required in the review comments. We fixed some formatting issues and it got accepted the next day after it was resubmitted. It was submitted to so many other journals before this one. It finally got a good result. Although it is open access, it feels great that I am able to graduate~~~~~

I submitted recently. Let's talk about some ideas: 1. The article was submitted to JCMB but rejected, and I was suggested transferring it to RSC Advances. I didn’t want to waste time, so I submitted it to RSC Advances; 2. It was submitted in the early March, and it took 2 months for the first review. During the period, the submission status “editor to peer review” changed up to five times. I guess there was no reviewer agreed to review; 3. Two reviewers required major revision, and I was urged to submit the revision in a week. Fortunately, I have data in hand, otherwise it was too late; 4. The manuscript was submitted after revision, it took another month for the second review. I sent an email and asked the editor, and I was told that one reviewer had already submitted the reviewed manuscript, but the other one didn’t. He would urge. A week later, I received the revision comments. One reviewer accepted it directly, and the other one had 4 small issues on format; 5. It was mid-June, and it was my third submission. The article was sent to the reviewers, and I don’t how long will it take. Summary: The level of this journal is average. It took too long this time, and the main reason is the sluggishness of the reviewers. They didn’t review very seriously. The format errors I could find were not found by the reviewers, and I feel it was not cost-effective. In general, if the topic is done attentively, there are many other good journals to choose from. Submitting to this journal feels a bit sorry for myself. Of course, you can have a try if you just want to have valueless articles published.

I wrote an article about purely theoretical calculation. It was submitted on November 3, 2019. It underwent no less than 10 times of in peer review (state 4) and state 3 during this period. I suggest you wait patiently during this period. The reviewer's comments were given on 2019-12-31, and the comments were very pertinent, and I was so happy that there were such reviewers. Finally, I submitted the revised manuscript on January 29, 2020. We sent 4 reminders during this period. As a writer, I feel that this journal is very responsible and I like it. Accepted directly 5 hours after the submission. I wish RSC Advances better and better, and congratulations to all students for their academic success.

Submitted on May 1, major revision May 24, Submitted on June 2, minor revision June 14, Submitted on June 22, major revision August 17, Submitted on August 28, and the paper is at peer review now. I thought it was easy to get accepted by this journal, so I submitted there. One reviewer requested major revision, while the other requested minor revision. All questions easy to address. After that resubmission, one review accepted while the other asked to do minor revision, but the advice was to add a new experiment. I thought that even the major revision did not request new experiment, and this was just minor revision so it wouldn’t be necessary. Now I knew I was wrong. As a result, the reviewer was very unhappy. The review period lasted 2 months, the review comments were very critical. I realized that my attitude was not appropriate previously so I quickly sent the paper out for language editing. After all, language is not my strength, so I understand why the reviewer has no patience reading it. The editor is very kind. After careful consideration, the editor gave me another chance of major revision. However, this review period is really long. Now I think it is all my fault so I want warn everyone not to take the reviewer comments lightly. I previsously heard that this journal accepts papers not so high in quality. If someone does have a paper published in a highest ranking journal, perhaps you can objectively evaluate this journal. I don’t think this journal allows  low quality papers at all.

The requirements for the partition are not high, and the layout fee is still affordable. The experiment conducted with undergraduate students is of great significance to them.

The speed was impressive, the selection of reviewers was accurate, the feedback was professional, and the revisions were challenging. Since I have limited experience in submitting to open access journals, the last time I submitted to open access was with another publisher six years ago. So, when paying the layout fee this time, I didn't think much and directly chose UnionPay for payment. Later, I realized that it was a company in China acting as an agent, and I ended up spending an extra thousand on taxes and fees. I wonder if I could have saved a thousand by choosing to pay in US dollars or British pounds directly. I will see if any other colleagues have shared similar experiences.
