I submitted an article several months ago and couldn't help but write a letter to the responsible editor asking for an explanation. They admitted that they had been unable to find a reviewer and suggested that I recommend some reviewers myself.
Recently, I submitted another article and received a rejection letter after more than nine months (obviously, they still couldn't find a reviewer). One reviewer directly criticized the foundation of my work as unreliable and didn't give me a chance to explain before rejecting it.
As an editor for several journals myself, I find it difficult to find reviewers, but I usually manage to find 3 to 4 reviewers within two weeks. I don't quite understand the efficiency of Scientometrics.
