Post-hoc comparison is a test of non-research hypotheses. It’s very common in actual studies: I finished the experiment, confirmed the hypothesis, but still need to extend the research, so I need to continue exploring the data to see which direction will yield valuable conclusions. At this point, it’s like I’m testing all possible comparisons (even though I can’t actually exhaust all comparisons, but since there is no specific purpose, all comparisons are potential). Because comparison doesn’t just refer to the difference in mean values of two treatments, linear combinations of multiple treatments are also comparisons
