Two reviewers were involved in the first review, one was very serious and professional, and the questions were very targeted, and the another one did not understand the paper, and the comments were completely unprofessional. During the second review, another reviewer was invited: 2020.07.04 submitted; 2020.09.10 major revision; 2020.10.16 a revision has been submitted; 2020.11.30 minor revision; 2020.12.14 accept.

Maybe the speed depends to the reviewers and editors encountered. 2019.01.22 Submitted; 2019.01.23 Peer review in process; 2019.04.04 awaiting recommendation; 2019.04.07 awaiting decision; 2019.04.11 major revision; 2019.05.07 revision submitted / awaiting admin processing; 2019.05.08 peer review in process; 2019.05.14 awaiting recommendation. It took about 4 months to get accepted, and the speed is not bad. However, there are many manuscripts in this journal, and it is estimated that it will take about a year to be indexed by web of science. If you are not in a hurry, you can try to submit to this journal. The editor is very responsible and has a good attitude. During the process, I asked about the status of the article, and the answer was timely and the processing speed was relatively fast. I feel that I had good luck in this submission, and the comments of the reviewers were relatively gentle and not sharp.

The timeline is roughly as follows:

Two more months until quickly transitioning from awaiting recommendation to awaiting decision to minor revision (these three changes took about 2-3 weeks)
Resubmitted for revision on August 2, 2023
Three more months of no change in status, so in early November, an email was sent through the system to inquire about the progress, with copies to the editor-in-chief and the email address that notifies successful submissions (neither the editor-in-chief nor the associate editors replied, but a week later the system status changed);
A week later, status changed to awaiting recommendation
5 days later, awaiting decision (all three reviewers recommended acceptance)
A week later, the acceptance notice was issued. The editor-in-chief seems to prefer handling manuscripts on Monday and Friday mornings in North America, which corresponds to Monday and Friday nights around 9-11pm in China
In summary, the journal is not bad. At least there are progress changes after reminders. Hopefully, the processing speed will continue to increase, starting from me to review without delay!

The editorial process is slow. The journal is listed in the Science Citation Index Expanded (SCIE) as a Tier 2 journal, with a not particularly high impact factor, but has a decent reputation in the industry. As rumored, the processing speed of the article is very slow, but according to observations, the review speed of the article is very fast. Most of the time is wasted on formatting review ('Peer review in process'). During this period, emails were not replied to, which is really annoying. I even thought about withdrawing the submission. The first review took two months, with not many comments. The second review took about three weeks, and the editor took a week to handle it. Finally, it was accepted. The difficulty of the journal is not great, but the whole process is too long, almost a year. Specific timeline is as follows:

After acceptance, final files need to be submitted. The submission system does not provide a button for this, so it needs to be sent via the "contact journal" function in the submission system. Attachments are limited to 6MB; if they exceed this limit, the editor will only receive an email without the attachment. After the minor revisions were completed, it was probably around July 10, 2023, that it was awaiting recommendation, and around July 15, it changed to Awaiting Decision. This final decision took more time for some reason. Lastly, I would like to thank my advisor, the editor, and the reviewers. The reviewers were very efficient, taking a little over a month for the first review and about a week for the second and third reviews. They were very timely.

This journal is extremely slow. Submissions made in September 2020 were accepted in January 2022, and it will probably be published in March 2023. In other words, it takes more than 2.5 years from submission to publication. Please do not submit your work to this journal!

Later, people must pay attention. Some of the editorial board members of this journal have extremely low efficiency. The time for "peer review in process" (format review by editors, not yet sent for review) can easily take up to six months. The editorial board members themselves don't even know that they are editors. The board members who don't send manuscripts for review in six months are not even fired. This is the most ridiculous magazine I have ever seen. It was very wise for the original poster to leave after three months.
