When the first submission was made in 2009, although the article was rejected, the editor-in-chief still sent me a bound volume of that year and an email, which is still there today. I received the reviewers’ comments after about a month and addressed their concerns. It took about 3 months for the review process. The reviewers and editors are very responsible, and the questions they raised were very professional. If there are experiments that cannot be completed, they should be explained in detail. The editor gave direct acceptance according to the reviewer’s opinion.

I don't know the current situation of all Chinese scholars, but in our field, it is possible to obtain the Excellent Youth Award by publishing two articles in New Phytologist between 2016 and 2020. Since its establishment, only four research groups in our field in China have published in this journal, which is widely recognized as a top journal in our field. Our research group has submitted twice so far, both times being rejected (I am a recipient of the Excellent Youth Award overseas). I see many people saying that Nature Communications and PNAS are low-quality journals, but those who have submitted articles know how difficult it is. Regardless of the content of the article, even the amount of data alone is enough to deter many ordinary PhD students. Generally, having an article published in New Phytologist, PNAS, or Nature Communications in our field makes it easier to find a teaching position at a regular university.
