I have encountered two very depressing submission experiences. One was that the manuscript was with the editor Prof. Matthias Wessling. It was first submitted on January 14, 2019 and sent for review one month later. And now it has been under review for four and a half months, and there is no response. Two remind letter were sent but were useless. He was also the editor of someone I saw on Xiaomuchong, who received no news for more than five months. Now I really want to withdraw the manuscript directly. I'm really depressed. Another editor was A. Livingston, who held it for a month, told me that the language was not good, and asked me to revise and resubmit. I had been waited for another month after the revised submission, I was told that it was still not working, and the article was rejected. Now this article transferred to Journal of Membrane Science, and the editor was changed. It took only 25 days from the first submission to the comments received. Other editors I met were still very fast. It was only 18 days for the fastest one to give results.

The review cycle was six months. The revised manuscript was reviewed by three reviewers. Two reviewers (peer) recommended acceptance, and the other reviewer (obviously the senior expert) rejected the manuscript. The review process is extraordinarily cautious.
