AE Joseph J LaViola avoids a mine
This AE was assigned for the second review, and there were no results for six months. I asked three times in between (once a month after three months without results), and they all said that out of the three reviewers who accepted the review, only one came back with feedback (which was to accept the paper). I thought that one opinion shouldn't make the decision, so I decided to wait. After a few more months, I received an email saying that the paper was rejected because they found a new reviewer, and the reason for rejection was that it didn't align with the human-computer interaction and journal content. It was confusing and absurd because none of the four reviewers in the first review or the initial AE mentioned that my paper on human gesture recognition and interaction did not align with the journal's scope. The whole submission process took almost a year and a half, and most of it was under the second AE, which was really frustrating.
As for the journal, it's still good. The first AE was very responsible, and the feedback from the four reviewers in the first review was very professional. Let's just avoid this AE.
