The journal was very rigorous and had high requirements in all aspects. It was revised a total of 7 times. I was exhausted physically and mentally. I had been very calm till the moment of acceptance. Articles will be evaluated first, and will be renumbered after the evaluation is passed. Based on the change in article numbers before and after the evaluation, it was estimated that about 1/3 of the papers were erased in the evaluation process. According to the journal's annual publication volume and manuscript numbers, it is estimated that the overall acceptance rate of the journal is about 15%, and the acceptance rate after passing the evaluation is about 20%–25%.

10-15 years ago, this journal was indeed No. 1 in the field of geotechnical engineering. However, it is now clearly going downhill. Although the impact factor has risen greatly because it is from an internationally renowned publishing group, the quality of articles in the journal has dropped significantly. I feel the quality is lower than the other three major journals in geotechnical engineering. The other three major journals are from those countries’ respective national geotechnical engineering society (Canada, the United States, and Japan), so self-citation rate is low. If you have a good paper, don't submit to this journal.

Currently, the recognition of the three major rock journals is still very high. In my opinion, Geo > JGGE > CGJ, because there are many Chinese people in the editorial board of CGJ, emmm, you know the reason. Now, compared to before, the quality of the papers in CGJ is still very good, with many good papers and also many average ones. However, it is still an established journal, but its ranking has not been very high in recent years, with the Chinese Academy of Sciences ranking it in the third or fourth quartile.

I first submitted to this journal on August 6, 2024. The paper was about rock mechanics. However, it wasn't until November 13 that I was informed that the article was rejected because it was too long, had too many figures, and did not match the content of the journal. This means that it was not even sent for review, just subjected to an initial screening, which took over three months!!! It is difficult to understand why a well-established and respected journal would show such disrespect for time and have such low efficiency in handling submissions. What's more, this journal does not provide any contact information (at least I couldn't find it on their official website, and I also emailed their publisher but received no response). In addition, I have a suggestion: if you are in a hurry to graduate or for job evaluation, it is better not to submit to this journal. Furthermore, many of the articles published in their most recent issues (such as in 2024) seem to be from two years ago. You can check this on their official website (maybe I am mistaken).
