Answer: Because this journal often seeks out PhD students from top universities abroad (Top 3 of the Engineering in US) as reviewers. They usually have more time than professors and are also very happy to receive reviews. Print other people’s articles (That’s me), then read it carefully, and find punctuation problems. Because I am familiar with this field, I would ask many questions. Submitting the manuscript, he said again that there were too few test samples and resolutely rejected it. Are you kidding me? I just apply the entropy method to distinguish the neural activity induced by my stimuli, instead of studying machine learning algorithms. Now it turned out to be that only a small part of it is about entropy, and the manuscript was all about comparative study of algorithm concerning feature extraction, feature selection, and machine learning. I was asked to add eight algorithms to it, and finally I was told that there were too few test samples and the manuscript was rejected. There were 20 subjects, 20 groups for each subject, and 10 trials for each group. This sample was not too small, even it was enough for machine learning classification. As a result, it took two months for two major revisions, and returned with a review comment that there were too few samples and the manuscript was strongly rejected. Are you kidding me? I want to cry but without tears! No matter how good the journal is, if you are not lucky enough to meet a freak reviewer, it will not only waste your effort and money, but also make you suffer in the end.

The editor of this journal was very friendly, and the review speed was also very fast, but some review experts were quite seriously. I wrote an article about the new entropy method to distinguish and recognize certain neural signals. There were three reviewers. Two reviewers gave very positive comments and agreed to accept it. The last reviewer was very serious and stubborn, putting forward a lot of comments and persisting in joining his feature selection algorithm and adding the other three more feature selection algorithms to compare. I carefully revised it in accordance with his requirements, basically rewriting the article. The page number abruptly increased from the first 14 pages to 20 pages. However, after submission, he said that SVM was not accurate enough, and asked me to add random forest, LDA algorithm, and compare the "leave one method" with the previous "ten-fold cross-validation". I revised as requested, increasing the article to 26 pages.
