On September 11th, I submitted the manuscript. On November 12th, the revision comments returned. Three reviewers all recommended acceptance with minor revisions and I was given half a month to revise. On November 26th, I submitted the revised manuscript. On November 27th, it displayed “acceptance” and the status changed to “in press”. The whole process went smoothly, and I revised quite seriously. Seven hundred and forty-nine articles are accepted each year, which is not bad. But $2100 was too expensive.

The review period is relatively fast compared to other journal experiences that I’ve had. It took four months to receive the first reviews, but the comments came back with only one reviewer. I felt that, regardless of the number of reviewers, the first cycle of review is fixed for four months. It would have been nice to be emailed the reviewer’s comments as they were returned to the editor. If you keep up, the impact factor is not high (only 1.333). The editor-in-chief is one of the members of the American Academy of Sciences, so there is a decent amount of quality control.

The submission process is long, the editor-in-chief is irresponsible. I submitted my paper in December 2023 and it was not sent back for revisions until May 2024. Both reviewers suggested minor revisions, but after resubmitting, I was informed in August that my paper was rejected. I could see from the submission platform that the external reviewers agreed with the revisions and recommended publication. However, the reason for rejection was that the editor-in-chief felt the paper did not align with the journal's direction. I don't understand why it was accepted during the initial review. Furthermore, I received the recommendation for publication from the external reviewers in May, but was only informed in August. It's really frustrating.

The reviewers' comments were very professional and strict, and the editing process was very fast. The speed of acceptance depends on the speed of the reviewers' review and also luck. The time from submission to publication in this journal is at least 4-6 months.
For Hindawi Publishing, if you see acceptance within a month, it can be basically confirmed that it was submitted through special channels. Have you not noticed that many special issues have a bunch of articles in fields like art, philosophy, language, and sports, which use various machine learning or artificial intelligence algorithms? They are all bought by the authors through channels. Complexity is not as serious in this aspect. Finally, if Chinese journals can be made open access on CNKI, the publication quantity will greatly increase, and I believe no one would be willing to spend money to submit to SCI.
