Later, I went to ScienceDirect to search this publisher's note Catena, to see if this journal has special requirements. Unexpectedly, I saw this statement: Dear Reader, On behalf of the journal CATENA, I would like to inform you that the legal correctness of elements of the U shaped line in the map of China (Fig.1) in the article “Improving sediment load estimations: The case of the Yarlung Zangbo River (the upper Brahmaputra, Tibet Plateau)” is disputed in international law, diplomacy and politics. It is not recommended that you submit to this amazing journal. At least you are not recommended to choose this editor for your submission.

This journal is amazing. I have never seen such a chief editor (J.A.M. Temme, Kansas State University). The reason for rejection of the article is as follows: Figs indicate the southern Chinese sea as Chinese territory. This addition to the figure has nothing to do with the contents of the paper and is merely added as a political statement. This issue is disputed in international law, diplomacy and politics. The impact factor for Catena has been stable for the past few years; this is a good journal for soil science publications. To be honest, I ended up publishing in Catena after I was rejected from Geoderma. My manuscript was reviewed and accepted within two months – very impressed with this journal. My only other piece of advice is to format and submit your article as recommended by the journal (this can save a lot of time and emails).

The first submission of the article was given major revisions after a three-month review period, with one rejection. However, the editor felt that the revised version still had merit. Subsequent minor revisions were made and the revised article was resubmitted for review, with acceptance received within half a month. The process was relatively fast.
