The article was submitted in December 2018, but it was not sent for review until February 2019. The external review was finished in April, and it was sent for review again in May. It was rejected in June and suggested resubmission. There were three reviewers, who raised a lot of comments, and one of them was the expert in the field. It was resubmitted in August 2019, and major revision was required in November. A reviewer held on the statistical issues. In the end, I didn’t revise it according to the comments, but put forward my own opinions. The revision was submitted in December, and minor revision was required in March 2020. It was officially accepted a few days ago. It took more than a year and three months in total! If you are in a hurry, do not submit to this journal. I didn’t use it in the application of National Natural Science Foundation of China. Unexpectedly, it may not be used in the application of National Natural Science Foundation of China this year. Because of the pandemic, the deadline of the application of National Natural Science Foundation of China has been postponed to April 20. I hope it can be quicker!

BMC Public Health publishes relevant articles in the field of public health. The review period is generally between 1-2 months. I received the first round of reviews for a past submission in about one and a half months. I wasn’t sure if the reviewers were seasoned professors or graduate students, but they were all professional and provided much-needed feedback and helpful edits. The advantages of this publication are that the quality of the papers published is high, the reviewers are professional, and the efficiency of the journal editors is excellent. The only downside is that the fees are costly.

Terrible experience. Submitted in Feb 2024, no updates for months despite emails. Got major revision in Sep, resubmitted in Oct. Expected quick second round, but minor revisions requested in Jan 2025. Revised quickly, but no response for two months. After several emails asking for the progress, they eventually said

YOUR EDITOR-IN-CHIEF WAS MISSING! 

Waited for a new editor; finally accepted in Apr 2025. 14 months from submission to publication. 

Conclusion: DO NOT SUBMIT TO THIS JOURNAL!

Submitted on September 6, 2024, the manuscript passed the technical review and was assigned an editor on the same day. The first reviewer was invited on October 28, 2024, and their feedback was received on November 2, 2024. However, there has been no progress since then. An email was sent in January 2025 to urge for a response, but only received generic replies. Another email was sent in early March 2025, with a reply stating that only one more review was pending. Initially, I thought it was just waiting for the final review, but after seeing similar responses from others in the comments section, it seems to be a standard reply. The process is moving too slowly.
