The review process is indeed not very fast. It took a total of 5 months, with the first review taking two months to provide comments and minor revisions. For the second review, another reviewer was appointed, which caused a delay of two more months. I did not submit a special issue. At that time, reviewers were provided and my status was updated quite quickly. This mainly depends on the research direction and content of the paper. I had external review for two to three months, and the reviewer changed every month.

At that time, I submitted a total of two papers. The first one was submitted on April 20th, and it is still under external review. The date changes every month, and it is said that they couldn't find suitable reviewers or the reviewers are unfamiliar with the content, so the journal is looking for new reviewers. Post on September 27, 2021, quickly entered the review stage, and the "Under Review" date kept changing. After three months, I sent a reminder, and the reply said it was under review. Then every month, I sent a reminder again, and the reply said they were looking for reviewers or waiting for reviewer comments. The last time, I couldn't take it anymore and wrote a letter recommending a reviewer, but the editor didn't adopt it. Not long after, the reviewer's comments came back.

On May 3, 2022, major revisions were made, and on May 15, 2022, the revised manuscript was returned.

On June 6, 2022, minor revisions were made, and on June 10, 2022, the revised manuscript was returned. Then after a long wait, the reviewer kept delaying. Every month, I sent a reminder letter, and the reply always said it was under review or something similar.

Accepted on August 15, 2022.

Throughout this process of more than 10 months, the reviewer took too long, and the editorial department did not timely urge the reviewer.

The first review took between 2 and a half to 3 months, with updates to the status no less than 3 times. It feels like some of the reviewers exceeded the time limit without completing the review, so the journal selected alternative reviewers, hence the longer time. My submission cycle is close to half a year, as this journal has a relatively low annual publication volume, so it is generally slow.
