The editor followed up on the manuscript after 10 days and the editor-in-chief showed interest in the article after a serious review and discussion with the editorial board (not sure if it's a standard response). The rejection suggestion is to submit to iScience. There are too few materials journals under the Cell umbrella, so the decision was made to switch to Wiley publishers.

It is said that the impact factor of Matter this year was calculated incorrectly, and the actual value is 18.3. As of September 10, 2024, the instant impact factors of various journals are: Matter 10.3, Joule 14.6, AM 15.9, AFM 11.2, ACS Nano 10.2, Sci. Adv. 7.6. It is unknown if Matter can exceed 20 this year, so we are keeping track.

May I ask how long after you became "With Editor" did you submit for review? My manuscript has been "With Editor" for 11 days and there has been no progress at all.

During my PhD, my first job submission was quite turbulent. The editor of a journal under Wiley initially declined to send the manuscript for review and suggested submitting to AS or Small instead. I strongly resisted this suggestion and transferred the submission to CellPress, Matter. The editorial process at Matter was highly efficient, and the submission experience was very positive. The first round of reviews all requested additional experiments, and the editor gave me three weeks for revisions. After nearly 2 months, the article has now been accepted for publication!
