It's really fast. Within 40 days from submission to acceptance, I submitted to 7 or 8 well-established journals and all were rejected. It took a year. They said Microorganisms might not have encountered a serious editor. Anyway, the questions raised by the reviewers were quite relevant and almost stumped me (the editor even suggested deleting the part that stumped me).

A well-known scientist once said, "For ordinary researchers, any paper that can be published is a good paper."

The official review cycle is fast for a reason. I submitted my paper on September 26th before National Day, but the assistant editor insisted on a format check, delaying the submission process. The main argument was about the number of co-first authors or corresponding authors, as well as the number of authors and academic emails. The journal allows up to four co-first authors in the latest published articles, but they only allow up to two for our article. After several rounds of replies, it was September 29th, and the editor went on vacation directly because the journal is based in Wuhan. On the first day after National Day (October 7th), the editorial office directly made some modifications to the manuscript information without permission and resubmitted it, changing the "received" date to October 7th. It went directly into pending review, and after a month, the opinions of three reviewers were released for revisions, giving five days for minor revisions. Subsequently, after the last reviewer's opinion was in, the revised manuscript was uploaded. The editor immediately requested no more than two co-first authors (even though the revised manuscript had already been modified) and academic emails for all authors. I politely but firmly pushed back in two rounds of discussions, and the editor eventually relented. The reviewers finished their review in a few days and the payment process was initiated. The speed of the journal processing was surprisingly quick, and the paper has now been accepted. It took a total of 52 days from submission to acceptance. The journal is mainly focused on microbiology and belongs to the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) Zone 3. All publications are special issues (selected during submission, not assigned by the editor) and affiliated with MDPI. The speed is fast. The research of the article is in the direction of antimicrobial activity of microemulsions. The article processing speed is relatively fast with two reviewers who are quite professional and provide detailed questions. The first revision required additional experiments and only provided a 10-day deadline, which was too tight. I requested an extension of 15 days from the editor. The second revision was a minor one. I have always heard that MDPI's journals are unfriendly to Chinese people, especially in the field of medicine. Any submission from domestic hospitals is instantly rejected. I decided to give it a try and, as expected, my submission was rejected on the same day. It seems like they didn't even properly review the manuscript. Anyway, if you want to submit something from China, don't have high hopes unless it's an exceptional article. Even exceptional articles can easily be accepted by other journals with a score of 7-8, but this one is a bit of a pitfall. Don't offend any influential figures in China, or you might end up on their warning list.
