This is currently the most tormented time in my submission career. After 2 and a half months of submission, it was still editor assigned. Why not give us a fast result so we can give up as soon as possible? The reminder letter was written twice and there was no reply. The third time I withdraw the manuscript, and even the notice of withdraw was sent to me a week later. I would advise everyone to be cautious in submitting articles.

The manuscript was submitted to Microbiome on July 8, 2019. On July 16, the editorial assistant replied to me asking me to modify the format of the article. He gave a very detailed modification format: from the title of the article, the author’s name, E-mail, correspondence address, the corresponding author to the figure legend. I revised it back on July 20 (Saturday), and the system automatically replies to an email saying that the revised version has been received, and then the next step is to proceed. From July 22nd (Monday), the status is Editor assigned and it remains as it is till today (July 26). I personally think if it is because the editor feel that the content of the article is okay, so he gave such detailed comments on the format modification. Or if the editor-in-chief think that the article is not good, it will be directly rejected, and it will not be necessary to patiently ask you to modify the low-level formatting errors. (Previously, I submitted a journal Molecular Plant before and was directly rejected.) Is there anyone who have submitted to this journal? Please give some suggestions to me. I’m wondering how long the editor assigned status in this journal will last.

I have submitted 2 articles and 1 of them was accepted. I feel it requires the overall analysis of microbiomes be done in a comprehensive and in-depth manner. The acceptance rate is low. I revised the paper very carefully.

Agree to some extent, but not completely. The microbiome research used to be very good, but the quality of recent articles has been inconsistent, especially with some domestic teams flooding the field. It's hard to understand how some articles can be published, but it becomes clear when you look at the authors.

The impact factor is high, but it's not a good journal. The articles all follow a standard model without much underlying theory. The impact factor is inflated by the hype surrounding gut microbiota and soil microorganisms. Its actual quality is not comparable to mbio.
