World Journal of Gastroenterology is not as bad as what people say. Review is very fast. Although my paper was rejected, the comments are directly relevant and very useful. I submitted on the last day of September and received the review comments on October 20th. Minor revision, mainly formatting problem. After my revision, the editor asked for a non-native English speaker certificate. I said that it is not mandatory, and the language of my paper was rated A, the highest score. Then the editor said that it was because there was only one reviewer. I asked her why not ask two reviewers. She didn't answer that but just said she needed the certificate, so I spent 3000 RMB to get a certificate from the editing company that they recommended.

Caution. This journal seems to have some problems. The first day of submission, the second day was sent for external review. The first round was AI-invited reviewers, with the editor adding 40-50 reviewers every ten days. Over a month, more than 100 reviewers have been invited, but still no one has reviewed the paper! I wonder how these reviewers are invited?

On a side note, a classmate submitted to another journal and invited over 500 reviewers in seven months, with no one reviewing the paper. Finally, they were asked to transfer to a subsidiary journal, where the paper was reviewed the next day at a high cost. Another classmate waited four months for one reviewer, received AAB feedback, made the revisions as requested, but was still rejected by the editor. Furthermore, I noticed that many intermediary companies are promoting relationships with this journal, raising suspicions about whether the journal has become predatory.

After finally sending it out for external review, regardless of the experts' opinions, the editorial department does not refer to them and does not reject you. They just ask you to submit to other low-quality journals under their umbrella. Since it is so difficult to find reviewers and their opinions are not important, why not just persuade people to submit to other journals under their umbrella during the initial editorial review? It's a big pit of a journal.

Experience sharing: In June, I submitted a paper and AI was constantly looking for reviewers. I added over 200 reviewers, and finally in September, I found one. The reviewer's comments were quite funny, basically just copying and pasting the shortcomings I had already mentioned in my article. The final suggestion was "minor revisions". I thought I had a chance, but then the editorial department directly rejected it, stating that their requirement was for at least three reviewers to have a rating of ABB or above (where are the other two?). The editorial department's evaluation of the paper also seemed to be just copying and pasting the shortcomings from my article. It felt like the reviewers and the editorial department didn't actually read the paper carefully. After rejection, they asked me to submit to their low-quality journal. If they thought the quality of my paper was poor, they could have rejected it at the initial review stage. After waiting for three months for external review, sending numerous emails without any response, this is the outcome. In short, it's a big mess of a journal.
