Reviewed 2013-04-19 18:47:00 American under the American Meteorology Society (AMS) is the top international journal of physical ocean science, even though its IF is only 2.345 (2011). Nevertheless, it is a very important journal for physical oceanographers (especially those based on basic theoretical research). Generally, there are two reviewers. The review requirements are strict and require very strict theoretical derivation. Some articles that cannot be published on the JPO can be published on JGR. In addition to the ordinary articles, JPO has a short text, formerly called Note, which is now called Expedited contributions, and the word limit is 2500. ![]() ![]() |

Reviewed 2023-03-30 05:15:43 The Journal of Physical Oceanography (JPO) is undoubtedly a top journal in the field of physical oceanography, highly recognized within the community. However, the community itself is relatively small, as indicated by its self-citation rate of 25%. In the current trend of favoring sub-journals, JPO appears to be slightly niche. As the preferred or only option for theoretical research articles in the field of physical oceanography (with JFM being another priority), JPO possesses an "irreplaceability" that most other journals lack. Therefore, although JPO may continue to exist without much fanfare, it will always have a loyal following and will not decline (specifically mentioning Deep Sea Research I & II for criticism). I am fortunate to have my first article published in JPO. The research for this article took three and a half years from start to publication. I hope that JPO will continue to improve! ![]() ![]() |

Reviewed 2012-11-02 22:40:00 Relatively speaking, the impact factor of this journal is not high. However, it is very important in the minds of physical oceanographers, because this journal emphasizes theoretical innovation, so the glory brought by a JPO is more than JGR (although the impact factor is higher).Perhaps because of the high requirements of JPO, the published articles are more difficult to understand, resulting in a relatively low impact factor. ![]() ![]() |
