I originally submitted my manuscript to The Science of the Total Environment, and the preliminary review said that the research direction of the article was not appropriate, recommending I try JEM. My experience with JEM was disappointing, as my manuscript was rejected after a half year of review and revision. The editor had found a new reviewer for my revised manuscript rather than sending it to the previous reviewer. The new reviewer recommended more revision and the editor decided to reject the manuscript. It was an unusual submission experience, and the first time I’ve encountered this situation. In general, the review cycle of this journal is slow, and the review process is also quite rigorous.

Returned on January 27, 2025, exceeded 8000 words;
Resubmitted on February 17, 2025, due to the teacher being busy with the Chinese New Year and not reviewing it for half a month;
Under review on February 23, 2025; Over 50 reviewers were contacted through the public account, possibly because the research was a bit niche, no one accepted until May.
Moderate revisions requested on May 27, 2025, with a two-week deadline;
Returned on June 30, 2025, due to some delays;
Accepted on July 19, 2025.
This process took a long time, but the editor handled it quickly. If you are lucky with finding reviewers, it should be faster. These are some of my experiences, I hope they are helpful to everyone. Good luck with your submissions!

Don't worry about it, just find a suitable place to submit it yourself, and even if you transfer it, there is no guarantee that it will be reviewed.
