My supervisor originally wanted me to submit to Tribology International or Tribology Letters, but I later learned about Friction after the introduction of the senior. After seeing the changes in the impact factor, I felt that this is a journal with great potential, so I submitted the manuscript to this journal decisively. And it was fortunate to be accepted. The new 2019 impact factor released in June really lived up to expectations, which soared from 3 to more than 5! The future is truly limitless. It is very recommended!

As far as I know, the review is usually completed in 2 to 3 months, but the online of Friction is really slow, because it is extremely careful in typesetting. Believe me, if you know the details, you will definitely be touched. I think this is the reason why Friction can reach 5.2 this year. The situation on your side is definitely a very rare situation. December 2023 - First submission
February 2024 - Two reviewers, one positive and one negative. The editor-in-chief decided to reject the article, but gave the opportunity to resubmit after revisions.
April 2024 - Resubmission
June 2024 - Both reviewers gave very positive feedback, and the editor-in-chief requested major revisions.
August 2024 - After the major revisions, the article was accepted for publication.

I submitted my manuscript in November last year. The status has been showing "assigned reviewer" for almost six months. Finally, there were two reviewers. One provided simple feedback, while the other found the research interesting but did not understand my methodology. They only focused on the formulas without considering the application conditions. As a result, my paper was rejected. It took me six months to find a reviewer who turned out to be very irresponsible. I have nothing to say. Posted on 2022-01-02, received the first review comments on 2022-07-07. Regardless of the review outcome, the speed of the review process is really slow. After five months of submission, I sent a reminder but didn't receive a reply. After six months, I sent another reminder and received a response from Professor Xu. One week later, my submission was rejected. Unless you have a lot of free time, I do not recommend submitting to Friction as the time cost can be quite high.

In the next life, it's unlikely that it will happen. As for this journal, you could say that it has high requirements. You can tell from the level of the articles and the affiliations. If you say the requirements are not high, then you will be rejected when you submit. 

One interesting phenomenon this year is that when our group started having meetings, many of my students reported on articles about Friction. At that time, they were just first-year graduate students. However, half a year later, there were no more articles about Friction in their literature reports. This indicates that the name Friction is still good, and there is a higher chance for newcomers in the field to search for this journal. But after being in the field for some time, they tend not to read it anymore. Instead, there have been more literature reports on International Journal of Fracture, Surface and Coatings Technology, and Applied Surface Science. As for article citations, students generally cite articles that have already been published by our research group and articles they have recently reported on. So the decrease in citation rate is probably related to this.

This journal has offended many people with its submission process, resulting in outsiders not wanting to cite it and even people within its own circle unable to cite it. It's as if its impact factor can never recover, similar to Nanoscale. Tribology is a relatively niche field, so if they try to control the quantity to boost the impact factor, they will lose their mass base of readers. On the other hand, Tribology International is doing relatively well. Although some of their submissions are rejected, their review process is relatively fair. Although there are also some mediocre works, at least they have gained popularity.

I would like to advise everyone to be cautious when submitting articles in a hurry. Although this journal is a domestic one, the review process is extremely strict and responsible. I submitted my article in December 2020 and after two major revisions and one minor revision, it was accepted in January 2022. The reviewer was changed after the second major revision. Perhaps I was just unlucky, and this may be an exceptional case, but the review process for the second major revision took an exaggeratedly long period of 6 months to complete.

The editor is very responsible and diligent, and the reviewers also pay great attention to details. The paper has been submitted three times and the reviewers are still being invited. Hopefully, they can accept it soon. 

The first revision had four reviewers; the second revision had two reviewers, one for submission and one for revision, and it was very detailed; the third revision had two reviewers, one for submission and one for revision, and there were two issues mainly addressing some minor questions that were not answered clearly during the second revision process. I don't know why they are inviting reviewers again. It is the first time I have encountered a journal that requires three revisions.
